P0080 Camshaft control solenoid: signal or voltage too high (exhaust, bank 1)
P0080 means: Camshaft control solenoid: signal or voltage too high (exhaust, bank 1). The engine computer turns the camshaft using oil pressure so the valves open at the right moment. Drive gently and have the car checked soon. The repair usually costs about €80–300 in Estonia.
What it means
The engine computer turns the camshaft using oil pressure so the valves open at the right moment. Right now the camshaft isn't where the computer wants it, or the computer can't drive the control valve properly. The signal voltage is too high. Usually a wire is shorted to power, the ground is broken or the part itself has failed.
What you may notice
- Engine light on
- Rough idle
- Less power, especially at low revs
- Higher fuel consumption
What could be wrong
- 1Connector loose, damp or corroded
- 2Wire shorted to power or ground broken
- 3Faulty control valve
- 4Engine computer fault (rare)
Repair difficulty: Moderate
What you can check yourself
First look at the connector and wiring: anything loose, melted or green with corrosion? Check the oil level first and when it was last changed. Old oil is the most common cause of this fault. You can check the simple things yourself, but the repair is best done in a workshop.
How we fix it
- We read the fault data on the diagnostic tool and check whether the fault is constant
- We measure the circuit's supply, ground and signal
- We repair the wire or replace the connector
- If the wiring is fine, we replace the control valve
